Pikes Peak

Pikes Peak is another place around Denver that I just love.  The drive up to the top is very slow, and you don't have time to enjoy the view (most of the roads are dirt, narrow, windy, and don't have guardrails).

On the way up, you pass Crystal Reservoir.  The water is a beautiful blue, especially with the greens of the trees and the browns of Pikes Peak on the background.  I liked this first picture so much that I use it as my desktop at work.

The summit of Pikes Peak is 14,010 feet high, and  you can see for miles in every direction.  The trees stop growing around 11,000 feet high, and they don't thin out, they just stop.

We met some friends up near the top also enjoying the view.  In the first picture, notice the roadway as is winds its way up the mountain.
